Tour Plan
- Morning: Start your journey from Haridwar or Rishikesh. This will be a long but scenic drive through the Garhwal Himalayas.
- En route: You'll pass through several important towns and confluence points like Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, and Joshimath.
- Late Afternoon/Evening: Arrive at Govindghat. Depending on road conditions and time, you might stay overnight in Joshimath (about 22 km before Govindghat) or Govindghat itself. Govindghat is the actual starting point for the trek.
- Overnight: Hotel/Guest House in Govindghat or Joshimath (approx. 270-290 km, 9-10 hours drive from Rishikesh/Haridwar).
- Morning: After breakfast, head to Pulna Village (approx. 4 km drive from Govindghat, road extended recently). This is the new starting point of the trek.
- Trek: Begin the trek to Ghangaria. The trail is well-defined but involves a gradual uphill climb alongside the Lakshman Ganga River. You'll pass through lush greenery and small eateries.
- Arrival: Reach Ghangaria, which serves as the base camp for both the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. Check into your hotel/guesthouse/Gurudwara accommodation.
- Evening: Relax and prepare for the next day's treks.
- Trek Duration: Approx. 9-10 km, 4-6 hours.
- Overnight: Hotel/Guest House/Gurudwara accommodation in Ghangaria (approx. 3,049m / 10,000ft).
- Morning: After an early breakfast, proceed to the Forest Department check-post to obtain your entry permit for the Valley of Flowers National Park.
- Trek: Begin the trek into the Valley of Flowers. The entrance is about 1 km from Ghangaria. The trail is relatively gentle, winding through meadows, passing bridges, and crossing streams.
- Explore: Spend several hours exploring the vibrant Valley, marveling at the diverse array of alpine flowers (peak bloom in July-August). Photography is encouraged, but picking flowers is strictly prohibited. The valley is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- Return: You must exit the Valley of Flowers by 5:00 PM. Trek back to Ghangaria.
- Trek Duration: Approx. 6-8 km round trip (within the Valley), 5-7 hours.
- Overnight: Hotel/Guest House/Gurudwara accommodation in Ghangaria.

- Hemkund Sahib: Take a holy dip in the pristine glacial Hemkund Lake (if conditions permit and you're brave enough for the cold water!). Offer prayers at the Gurudwara, one of the highest in the world, and the Lakshman Temple.
- Descent: Begin your descent back to Ghangaria. It's crucial to start your descent by early afternoon (around 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM) as weather can change quickly at this altitude.
- Trek Duration: Approx. 12 km round trip, 7-9 hours.
- Overnight: Hotel/Guest House/Gurudwara accommodation in Ghangaria.

- End of Trek.
- Best Time to Visit:
- Valley of Flowers: Mid-July to Mid-August is the peak blooming season when the valley is at its most vibrant. If you go before July, you'll see more snow and melting glaciers but fewer flowers. After mid-August, the colors shift, and flowers start to dry up.
- Hemkund Sahib: Open from late May/early June to early October. The trek to Hemkund Sahib is steep and often snow-covered in the early season.
- Permits: Both locations require permits. The Valley of Flowers National Park requires an entry fee (around INR 200 for Indians, INR 850 for foreigners for a 3-day pass; additional days cost extra). Registration for pilgrims is mandatory. Permits can be obtained online or at the Forest Department checkpoint in Ghangaria.
- Fitness Level: The trek is categorized as moderate to challenging. Hemkund Sahib, in particular, involves a steep climb at high altitude. Regular physical preparation (cardio, strength training) is highly recommended.
- Altitude Sickness (AMS): Ghangaria (the base for both treks) is at 10,000 ft (3,049m), Valley of Flowers is slightly higher, and Hemkund Sahib is at 15,200 ft (4,632m). Acclimatization is crucial. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, and be aware of AMS symptoms.
- Accommodation: Ghangaria is the only place to stay overnight for both treks. Options include hotels, lodges, and a large Gurudwara (Hemkund Sahib Trust provides accommodation for pilgrims). Camping is not allowed inside the Valley of Flowers National Park.
- River Crossings: While less frequent than some other Himalayan treks, be prepared for occasional small stream crossings or wet patches, especially in the monsoon.
- Essentials: Pack warm layers (even in summer, nights are cold), rain gear (poncho/raincoat), waterproof trekking shoes with good grip, extra socks, sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), basic first-aid kit, power bank, water bottles, and snacks.
- Porters/Mules/Helicopter: From Govindghat/Pulna to Ghangaria, you can hire porters or mules for luggage, or take a helicopter service (book in advance). For Hemkund Sahib, mules and porters are also available.
This itinerary ensures you have dedicated days for both the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib, with proper rest and acclimatization built in. Enjoy your trek!
